Akanador Emerges PG, As Amakohia- Ubi Elects New NEC Leaders

In what could be adjudged as credible free and fair election, the people of Amakohia-Ubi autonomous community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, have successfully elected new National Executive Council,NEC who will steer their affairs for next  three (3 ) years.

The NEC election was held at the Community School  last Saturday with the offices of the President General, Vice President, Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Publicity Secretary keenly contested .

Speaking, Chairman of the 2025 NEC Electoral Committee of Amakohia-Ubi Development Union, Sir Duziem Uneze, hinted that they followed due process in the conduct of the election, which he said at the end threw indigenes into a joyful mood as results reflected the wish of the people.

Uneze added that in line with the NEC’s constitution, delegation pattern was duly adopted as delegates were selected from the various branches or components of the NEC.

“The electoral guidelines state that Abuja, Lagos and other branches will bring in 10 delegates each for the election, while the home branch brings 5 delegates. The aspirants are automatic delegates, voting for themselves and candidates of their choice and in total we had 107 delegates”, he noted.

Announcing the results, the Electoral Committee Chairman declared Engr. Kelvin Akanador winner of the President-General position, as he got a total number of 61 votes to beat his opponent, Onyewuchi Diala, who got 37 votes.

Other positions were won and their winners included the Vice President,  Kenneth Nwozuzu, with 62 votes, Jeremiah Uche for Secretary, 49 votes, Casmir Naari won the Financial Secretary post with 56 votes, Buchi Anuforo, Welfare Officer, with 57 votes and Elizar Akuwudike, 62 votes to win the Publicity Secretary.

The newly elected NEC officers were immediately sworn into office and certificates of return were handed to them, respectively.

In an interview, the newly elected National President, Akanador, who extended an olive  branch to his opponents to join him to develop Amakohia-Ubi to their  expectations, expressed joy that his people had truly, at the election, demonstrated the love they have for him, promising never to let them down.

As part of his blue prints for his people, Akanador assured to fix the community electricity, decentralize transformers across the community to improve steady light supply, revive the community union, ensure the establishment of strong security outfit and the creation of jobs for adequate employment of the people.

On their parts, Chief Kenneth Ekene Osuoha (Okpataozuoha) a Stakeholder and Hon. Ferdinand Chidera Unawunwa, Electoral Committee Member, rated the election as best and first of its kind in the area.

He  affirmed  that it went successfully and peacefully as the people were allowed to vote according to their conscience.

They urged the new leaders to live up to their campaign promises, hinging on their “Raising The Bar Of Leadership” to strengthen goodness, prosperity in Amakohia- Ubi by giving them quality and effective leadership.

Appealing to every indigene of the community which is made up of 4 towns: Umuike, Umunjam, Obiokwu and Umuoka, to fully support the new NEC leaders while jettisoning any form of opposition, the people told the leaders to endeavour to create a robust relationship with governments in order to attract enviable development and transformation  to the Agrarian
